Next job, exhaust/turbo/downpipe fabrication, as this whole S2000, used to be normally aspirated, so has no reason to include room in the honda engine bay for the turbo that we all know and love from nissan!.

Stay tuned for more updates!!!!

Today Mitch took a good part of the day making the jigs and one of the engine mount brackets. He always worries that things won’t be sturdy enough so it sometimes slows him down (as does working alone, because Mitch had to go out once to source some plate and then again to to welding supplies place) but this should do it, as it’s 5mm throughout, and strength is paramount in these projects.

Put the pattern onto a plate and made a basic jig, then removed it and used an SR20 mount to make adaptors rather than complete units.

Today was a day of cutting for clearance and moving components so that the engine and gearbox could be dropped in as one unit.

A test engine and gearbox were used as there is no exhaust side fitted, and there is more access to the engine mounts with the turbo out of the way. Another reason for this is because there must be plenty of room to fit and remove the turbo and manifold so it can be done in future with the engine in situ.

DriftGarage on Facebook

This is Matt Campling’s 1JZ install. Given a very short time-frame, a 1JZ-GTE Toyota engine was fitted into an S13 shell, all in time for Matt to compete at the final round of the British Drift Championship. Huge congratulations must go to him for winning his class in the championship.

25/10/2011

After snapping its timing belt, this Subaru Impreza RA was feeling a little sorry for itself but being in such good overall condition, it was decided to give it a new lease of life. Obviously it had to be rear wheel drive and because there are so many parts in stock, the sensible choice had to be SR20DET. The workshop was a little quiet so work has started in slow time and updates and pictures will follow.

09/12/2011

Driftgarage has recently started a new project in the form of a caged Nissan 200SX shell,

The shell is very clean, with just a couple of small patches underneath that needed sorting out.

Once the patches were done, the underside was given a complete lick of underseal to protect against the great British weather!

As you can see, the wiring will need a bit of work, but here at Driftgarage, this is never too much of a problem. It looks like the previous owner cut most of the wiring out, so if there are major issues there is another complete loom on standby

The engine of choice is the SR20DET. A 2 litre turbo engine, which the car would have originally come with. Here you can see a potential candidate for the car on the engine crane. This one has just had its compression checked with a nice happy result across the board.

All of the car has now had its underseal done as mentioned earlier. It is always wise to do this at this stage in a build to make sure everything is protected, and saves time dealing with it when the car is built up.

This could be used for the reshelling of another car, so if you’ve got a rotten S14 that needs a new lease of life or have found that pesky diesel patch in your S14 and had a big oops moment, get in touch!
